Set Design for Performance

Led by Bettina John, set designer for theatre and opera, this course explored designing for live performance, from site-specific work to theatre, musical and opera.

My project focused on Duncan Macmillan’s play Monster, set in a classroom where a young teacher tries to reach Darryl, a disturbed and aggressive teenager. I designed a space shaped by the play’s themes of responsibility, redemption, alienation and vulnerability.
